Rebar prices have decreased further in the Italian domestic market in the past week, and declining more steeply compared to the previous two weeks. According to several sources, sales are very weak both in the domestic and export markets. Rebar prices are now at €540-550/mt ex-works, down €30/mt compared to last week. Market sources explained that rebar demand is weak in many European countries due to the slowdown of projects owing to the effects of the Covid-19 crisis and the adverse weather conditions. The only positive signal is coming from the local scrap market, which is expected to trend up in the coming period. Some sources say that, if scrap prices reverse their trend, Italian long steel producers may attempt to push up their  prices again.
