Local Italian rebar market remains fragile

Rebar prices remain fragile in the Italian domestic market. However, the room for further price reductions seems to be limited. As reported previously, domestic rebar prices in early February decreased by more than €20/mt compared to late January, due to local scrap price decreases and low demand. However, the descending trend has slowed down recently, with prices at €400/mt ex-works, compared to the €400-405/mt levels reported on February 4. According to several sources, the recent resumption of an uptrend in import scrap prices in Turkey should have a positive impact on the Italian scrap market as well, which in turn should prevent further significant decreases in finished steel prices.
