As of January 30, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have been characterized by fluctuations, while transaction activity in the market has been at medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
Approaching the Chinese New Year holiday (February 15-21), some domestic rolling mills have halted production, resulting in reduced consumption of semi-finished steel, while many downstream users have started to build up semi-finished stocks ahead of the holiday. However, some users are still waiting for a more favorable time to build up stocks. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.
