During the week ending August 21, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have increased, while transaction activity in the market has been at medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, capacity utilization rate of blast furnaces has continued to decrease due to strict environmental protection requirements. The semi-finished steel supply has been limited, which bolstered semi-finished steel prices. Moreover, ferrous metal futures prices have moved up, exerting a positive impact on semi-finished steel market. It is expected that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.
