During the week ending March 12, Chinese domestic billet prices have mostly declined slightly, with slab prices moving sideways, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, billet prices in the Chinese domestic market have indicated a slight downward movement. Ongoing investigations regarding intermediate frequency electric furnaces in China are expected to reduce supply in the market and provide a certain degree of support for semi-finished steel prices. However, slack demand from downstream users and weak transaction activity have negatively influenced semi-finished steel prices in the spot market. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely continue their soft trend in the coming week.
