Latest situation in local Italian rebar market

Italian rebar producers asked for an increase of domestic rebar prices this week. According to sources, some of them have begun asking for a price of €500/mt ($565/mt) ex-works, against prices of €470-475/mt ex-works that were recorded in the past week. The increase seems to be due to a very slight revival of demand in the local market, which was determined by the recent improvement of local weather. Sources underline that the revival is not due to the start of new projects; nor to the export market, as it has remained mostly idle due to end-of-Ramadan holidays. It has to be seen if these new rebar prices will be absorbed in the domestic market.
