Latest situation in local Italian rebar market

According to market sources, domestic rebar prices in Italy have decreased as compared to the period before the summer holidays, though not by large margins. The decreases have been attributed to low demand and to lower domestic scrap prices. However, prices have been partially supported by the lack of certain diameters at local steelmakers. Currently, prices are in the range of €520-530/mt ($608-620/mt) ex-works.

According to some market sources, low sales may cause further price decreases in the coming period. At the same time, Italian rebar producers are trying to gain relief through export sales, particularly to the US, but so far there have not been reports of actual sales to this market.
