Italian rebar exports characterized by sluggishness

After selling large volumes of rebar to Algeria towards the end of 2017 amid the uncertainties surrounding the renewal in this destination of import licenses (subsequently abolished starting from January 1, 2018), Italian rebar exporters remained mostly dormant in the first three weeks of the current year, and are again starting to become more active just now.

According to sources, rebar export offers from Italy are currently at €500-510/mt ($620-632/mt) FOB. More specifically, €510/mt FOB is the price offered by those producers that have already booked some orders. Meanwhile, export activities are slack due to slow demand from Algerian buyers, as they had bought large volumes of material in December and still have to get rid of their stocks.
