Ex-Turkey merchant bar prices rise sharply amid expectations of higher energy prices

A few Turkish merchant bar re-rollers have increased their export prices by $5-15/mt to $620-640/mt FOB for September shipment amid the ongoing currency fluctuations, concerns over a possible increase in energy prices, and the upcoming start of shipments for export sales to Europe under the next quota round, which begins on October 1. A few mills are also testing levels slightly above $640/mt FOB for September shipment due to their ongoing export bookings. Most European buyers are assessing the sharp and rapid increase in Turkish longs prices this week.

Meanwhile, the SteelOrbis Turkish import billet daily reference price stands at $495-515/mt CFR unchanged over the past week.
