Chinese domestic steel section prices have followed a mostly stable trend during the past seven days, with some slight decreases seen also.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have softened by small margins during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 2,930/mt ($418/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 2,950/mt ($421/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,030/mt ($432/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Mainstream ex-China H-beam section steel offer prices from the ports of Shanghai and Tianjin stand at $482-527/mt FOB as of today, Monday, January 5, stable compared to December 29.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has been sluggish over the past week due to the holiday period, while most prices have moved sideways, though some prices have moved down slightly due to the minor downticks seen in billet prices. Most traders chose to keep their quoted prices stable as buyers were still on holiday. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices may indicate slightly fluctuations.
