Chinese domestic steel section prices have continued their slight uptrend during the past seven days.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have moved up by small margins during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 2,970/mt ($428/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 2,990/mt ($431/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,070/mt ($442/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Mainstream ex-China H-beam steel section offer prices from the ports of Shanghai and Tianjin stand at $504-539/mt FOB as of today, Monday, March 16, up slightly from March 9.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has been at normal levels over the past week, while prices have continued to rise slightly, supported by the upticks seen in billet prices and also by the improvement in demand. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices may again continue to follow a slight uptrend.
