Chinese domestic steel section prices have showed a rebounding trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed a downward trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,770/mt ($549/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,790/mt ($552/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,870/mt ($563/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has improved slightly due to cooler weather conditions in certain areas of the country but is still considered to be weak due to the off-season. Supply volumes have recently increased, exerting pressure on steel section prices. Prices of raw materials and billets have lately softened both in the spot and futures market, which may exert downward pressure on steel section prices. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices may soften due to the decreases in prices of upstream materials.
