Chinese domestic steel section prices have mostly increased compared to one week ago.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have moved upwards during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 5,110/mt ($787/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 5,130/mt ($790/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,210/mt ($803/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
In the past week, local Chinese steel section prices first declined but then started to rebound and are now mostly higher compared to one week ago. Overall trading activity has been weak due to the relatively large fluctuation of prices. Prices of billet and other raw materials have increased both in the spot and futures markets. Production restrictions will provide some support for steel section prices. Approaching the Labor Day holiday, demand may improve. As for the week ahead, considering the support from the cost side and from demand, it is believed that steel section steel prices may continue to move upwards.
