Chinese domestic steel section prices have moved up slightly week on week.

As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have softened by a small margin during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,370/mt ($476/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,390/mt ($479/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,470/mt ($490/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.

Overall trading activity in the local Chinese steel section market has slowed a little in the past week amid rainy weather in some regions but is still at normal levels. Upstream billet prices have declined slightly. Meanwhile, production volumes have decreased due to environment measures in northern China. Traders have mostly decreased their steel section inventories since demand may continue to slacken due to the offseason and bad weather conditions. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices may move down slightly.
