Chinese domestic steel section prices have followed an upward trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have also moved up during the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,620/mt ($547/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,640/mt ($551/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,720/mt ($563/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the local Chinese steel section market has been at normal levels. Prices of billet and other raw materials have indicated a strong upward trend, causing most steel section prices to increase also. However, the weakness of demand has limited the increase margin of steel section prices. Market inventory has fallen slightly amid production restrictions in certain parts of China. As for the week ahead, it is believed that domestic steel section prices may fluctuate in an upward direction, supported by higher raw material prices.
