Chinese domestic steel section prices have increased during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed an upward trend during the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,500/mt ($500/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,520/mt ($503/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,600/mt ($515/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the Chinese domestic steel section market has improved in the past week and is currently at normal levels. Prices of billet and of other raw materials have increased both in the spot and futures markets, providing support for the upward movement of the steel section market. Demand for steel sections is still influenced somewhat by rainy weather conditions and the off-season, while supply volumes have also declined slightly. As for the week ahead, since support from the cost side is still strong, it is believed that steel section steel prices in China may move in an overall upward direction, with some fluctuations possible.
