Chinese domestic steel section prices have continued to fluctuate slightly during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have softened by a small margin during the past week, but have continued to provide support for steel section prices. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,920/mt ($607/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,940/mt ($610/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 4,020/mt ($622/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Supply volumes of steel sections have recently been low, while demand has been slack due to the off-season and the approach of the Chinese New Year holiday. Some traders have chosen to cut their prices slightly in order to close more deals. As for the week ahead, as the New Year holiday draws closer, it is believed that steel section prices in China may follow a mostly stable trend, with some slight fluctuations also in certain local markets.
