Chinese domestic steel section prices have softened during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have indicated a downtrend in the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 5,120/mt ($790/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 5,140/mt ($792/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,220/mt ($805/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Chinese steel section prices have fluctuated on an overall downward trend during the past week. Overall trading activity has been weak due to the off-season. Upstream billet prices have fallen slightly, causing most section steel prices in the spot market to follow suit. Recently, supply volumes have fallen slightly due to some production restrictions. As for the week ahead, considering the off-season it is believed that domestic steel section prices may continue to move down slightly.
