Chinese domestic steel section prices have indicated fluctuations with slight downticks during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have decreased during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,090/mt ($451/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,110/mt ($454/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,190/mt ($466/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Mainstream ex-China H-beam section steel offer prices from Shanghai or Tianjin ports stand at $526-561/mt FOB as of today, Monday, May 18, showing a strong uptrend compared to May 11.
Chinese steel section prices have followed a fluctuation trend during the past week. Overall trading activity has been at a normal level. Upstream billet and other raw material prices have declined, putting certain pressure on section prices. Meanwhile, the demand side also weakened recently, which led certain traders to reduce their quoted prices in order to close more deals. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices may see fluctuations with small declines considering that support from the cost side is getting weak.
