Chinese domestic steel section prices have softened slightly during the past week, with smaller decreases compared to the previous week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have rebounded during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 4,030/mt ($603/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 4,050/mt ($606/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 4,130/mt ($618/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section has improved slightly but is still weak due to the current off-season. Certain traders have chosen to increase their stock levels after prices decreased sharply during the previous week. Supply volumes have declined as profits are not so good. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices may just indicate minor fluctuations.
