Chinese domestic steel section prices have declined during the past seven days.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed a downward trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 4,620/mt ($731/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 4,640/mt ($734/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 4,720/mt ($747/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Chinese steel section prices have moved down during the past week amid the weak trend of billet prices and the overall slack trading activity in the market. Meanwhile, due to the recovery of production volumes, market inventory has increased, which has also exerted pressure on steel section prices. As for the week ahead, considering the uncertainty regarding the trend of raw material prices and the weakness of the demand side, it is believed that steel section prices may soften slightly.
