Chinese domestic steel section prices have maintained an upward trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have indicated an upward trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 5,350/mt ($826/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 5,370/mt ($829/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,450/mt ($842/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity has been weak amid offseason and bad weather conditions in certain areas of China. Upstream billet prices have moved up and production volume has slightly reduced because of production restrictions policy, supporting steel section prices. As for the week ahead, amid approaching end-of-month and weak demand, it is believed that steel section prices may fluctuate with slight declines.
