US domestic scrap prices are forecast at a downtrend for October buys, and many question whether falling raw materials costs could place downward pricing pressure on flat rolled steel products, including US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil.
At current, the average spot market price remains unchanged, at approximately $28.00-$29.00 cwt. ($617-$639/mt or $560-$580/nt), but, as with last week, sources close to SteelOrbis continue to report that end-user order transaction prices are being transacted at below replacement cost. Inventories are still trending high, according to sources, who report that order activity is steady, but slow.
