The most commonly heard spot market price for US import 0.012”x40.875” G30 HDG coil from the UAE, Vietnam and Mexico has adjusted downward since our last report a week ago, and now, mills in these countries are offering in the same price range as Brazilian mills. Prices for US import 0.019x41.5625 Gr80/AZ55 coil have also adjusted downward.
The decision for offshore mills to reduce their offer prices is directly linked to soft prices in the US domestic market. Yesterday, SteelOrbis reported that US domestic HDG prices had softened by $3.00 cwt. ($66/mt or $60/nt) in the past seven days and as such, offshore mills are adjusting prices downward in hopes of booking orders.
Interest in booking significant tonnage, however, is lacking, as buyers are taking a “wait and see” position with regard to happenings in the domestic market.
