Sources close to SteelOrbis have confirmed that spot market prices for US import HDG and Galvalume coil have climbed yet again, adding that while import prices are still at historical highs, offshore prices are still “slightly less” than domestic offers.
Import offers for 0.012” G30 coil are trending roughly $3 cwt ($33/mt or $30/nt) less than domestic pricing, while import 019 Gr80/AZ55 is roughly $5 cwt. ($110/mt or $100/nt) below US pricing.
And while some are concerned that domestic prices will fall before imported tons arrive, it’s worth noting that a poll conducted today at SteelOrbis RWR conference suggested most respondants think domestic prices will stay strong until 2022, rather than dropping in Q3 or Q4 of this year.
