The most commonly heard spot market price transaction range for US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil may have held stable week-over-week, but sources close to SteelOrbis say that transactions toward the top of the range are “nearly extinct,” adding that the bulk of sales are being concluded toward the bottom end of the below stated range.
“Pricing is soft but we’re not expecting a big retreat,” a source said. “I think if anything we’ll see the usual, seasonal slowdown, with some minor shifts in pricing, but it’s not going to be substantial.”
Another source said that he believes that buyers are trying to gauge where the market is going.
“A lot of people are still trying to gauge how long the market will remain stable, and unless people are in a situation where they have to buy, they’re taking a wait-and-see approach. There are a lot of pricing shifts that are taking place globally when it comes to raw materials,” he said. “When people are buying they’re buying cautiously.”
