Spot market prices within the US domestic HDG market are “mostly stable” since our last report a week ago, but sources close to SteelOrbis say that availability is tight.
“The big problem with 012 G30 coil, and Gr80/AZ55 is that it’s impossible to find,” a source said. “A lot of the mills at this point are offering based on July / August rolling, which is insane. If you can book ridiculously priced offshore steel that will arrive in September, but the price is less ridiculous than what you can get in the domestic market, it makes sense at this point to book import.”
Another source said that while domestic prices have leveled for now, he questions how long they’ll remain steady. “The elevator just keeps going up but we have no idea what floor it’s going to stop on,” he said.
