Spot market prices for US domestic HDG and Galvalume coil have continued to hold steady, although sources close to SteelOrbis question how long current price points will last. Whereas some believe that prices will continue to fluctuate within $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt) of the current range, up or down, between now and the end of the year, others believe that prices have peaked, and could be on the verge of a downtrend.
“It’s anyone’s guess at this point. It’s essentially a coin flip,” a source said. “I think we’re at the top and I don’t think prices will be able to stay where they are for much longer.”
On the other hand, order activity remains strong, scrap prices have held steady, and lead times are still extended, which does lend credence to “mostly sideways” price predictions.
