Last week, US domestic flat rolled steel mills announced they would be raising prices on US flat rolled steel products, including US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil by $1.50 cwt. ($33/mt or $30/nt), effective immediately, but the price increase has yet to have an impact on spot market prices.
As with last week, the most commonly heard spot market price transaction range for US domestic base price hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil continues to be heard at $41.50-$42.50 cwt. ($915-$937/mt or $830-$850/nt), ex-mill.
However, SteelOrbis sources believe that mills’ recent price increase will be accepted by the market. “Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but based on what’s going on with lead times, raw materials and scrap, the general sense is that the price increase is going to stick.”
