Pricing across all segments of the US domestic flat rolled market may have held steady in the past seven days, but sources close to SteelOrbis say an increasing number of transactions are taking place toward the bottom end of the most commonly reported ranges; US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG), it would seem, is no exception to that rule. What is interesting, though, is that this is a complete turnaround from the situation a week ago, when the greatest bulk of spot market transactions were taking place at the higher end of the current span. “Prices may not have moved but order books aren’t exactly robust; things seem to be falling back a notch,” according to one Midwest-based service center. But for now, the most commonly reported spot price has held at sideways, still at approximately $37.00-$39.00 cwt. ($816-$860/mt or $840-$860/nt) ex-Midwest mill.
