As of January 22, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have decreased slightly on week-on-week basis, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market first declined before moving back upwards later, with average prices of steel plate now slightly lower compared to one week ago. Meanwhile, inventories in the steel plate market have increased. In the latter part of the given week, rebar futures prices at Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) indicated increases, exerting a positive impact on the domestic finished steel market and on steel plate prices. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely edge up or move sideways in the coming week.
