Despite weakening demand due to the summer period and falling flat steel prices across the European market, Romanian flat steel spot traders have kept their prices stable over the past week. However, given the limited business activity, most traders are open to offering discounts to serious buyers. Meanwhile, the sole domestic flat steel producer continues production but has not officially announced any updates on its production plans. While the producer is reportedly seeking to secure orders and attract buyers’ interest, no formal offers have been heard in the market.
Over the past week, spot prices in the local market have remained stable, with hot rolled sheet (HRS) quoted at €715-735/mt ex-warehouse and cold rolled sheet (CRS) at €820-840/mt ex-warehouse. The local producer, while active in production, has yet to issue any official offers.
In the import segment, while Romanian buyers had previously shown interest and purchased some HRS lots from Ukraine at €610-620/mt DAP, sources report that no purchases or interest have been observed from Romanian buyers in Ukrainian material this week. As a result, Ukrainian HRS and CRS offers have remained stable at €610-620/mt DAP and €700-710/mt DAP, respectively. In contrast, Turkish HRC offers have continued to decline from the previous week. Current FOB prices are around $530-540/mt with freight costs estimated at approximately €25/mt, and so the delivered price to Romania stands at about €480-485/mt CFR, down from last week’s €485-495/mt CFR.
