Price of Brazilian export slab begins to decline

Slab exports by Brazilian producers reached 508,300 mt in October, less 7 percent than in September, according to the country’s ministry of development, industry and foreign trade, MDIC.

The average FOB export price went down by 5 percent to $469/mt, with sales by ThyssenKrupp CSA at $513/mt, by ArcelorMittal Tubarao at $446/mt and by Gerdau Acominas at $492/mt.

An industry source told SteelOrbis that the export price for the base commercial grades, which has hovered around $500/mt over the last three months, is now closer to $450/mt, considering the export deals closed more recently.

The lowest prices in October were $417/mt and $438/mt, for sales by ArcelorMittal Tubarao to Asian Countries and Morocco, respectively.

The high grade slabs of ThyssenKrupp CSA were sold at $519/mt, $511/mt and $500/mt to the US, Germany and Canada, respectively.
