For the fourth consecutive week, prices for domestic Mexican electro-galvanized sheet have followed a neutral trend, remaining at the level of US$886/mt ex-mill.
Mexico is undergoing a continuous process of development of major automotive clusters throughout the country, and one of the most important--with 198 auto parts manufacturing plants--is located in the northwestern region. According to information from the Mexican Business Information System (SIEM), in total, there are more than 600 auto parts companies in Mexico, of which a third are considered first-rate.
The Bajío region's industrial growth rate was 10 percent in the first half of 2012, while other northern regions (Chihuahua, Ciudad Juarez, Matamoros, Mexicali, Monterrey, Nogales, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, and Tijuana Saltillo) saw a rise of only 0.35 percent.
Led by the automotive and aerospace industries, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosi moved to large northern cities to construct and expand industrial parks, which represents a new awakening for the region.
