During the week ending April 7, Chinese domestic hot dip galvanized (HDG) prices have indicated an upward trend, while overall transaction activity in the market has been at decent levels. Average HDG prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, HDG prices in the Chinese domestic market have moved on a rising trend, with the price gap between cold rolled coil (CRC) and HDG reaching as high as RMB 700/mt in the Shanghai market, which has created concerns among market players. At the same time, the costs of purchasing new HDG supplies are at relatively high levels, providing support for HDG prices in the spot market. Meanwhile, HDG supply volumes from major steelmakers including Wuhan Iron and Steel, Shougang and Ansteel have been insufficient, resulting in supply shortages in the spot market. It is thought that HDG prices in the Chinese domestic market will indicate a slight uptrend in the coming week, while they are unlikely to record strong increases.
