Trader sources say
US buyers’ interest in booking import hot dipped
galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil remains varied based on which country, and which mills are offering.
One source indicated that
US import 0.12”x40.875” G30 coil from Pakistan and the UAE is being offered at “below $40.00 cwt,” ($882/mt or $800/nt), DDP loaded Truck
US Gulf Coast ports, “but there isn’t always a lot of interest in booking from second or third-tier mills,” the source added.
US import HDG coil prices from India have increased since our last report a week ago, from $620-$630/mt FOB to $635-$650/mt FOB, due to rising prices within the Indian domestic market.
US buyers’ interest at the lower pricing levels was “light at best,” one source said, adding that few, if any, are entertaining booking futures at the revised, higher price points.
US import Galvalume prices from Brazilian steelmakers continues to trend at $860/mt FOB, a price which has remained stable for the past two months. According to August 30 data from the
US Department of Commerce, Enforcement and Compliance, Brazil continues to be one of the most significant offshore sources of
US import hot dipped
galvanized sheets and strip. For the month of July, the
US imported 21,605 mt (primary census data) from Brazilian steelmakers. Korean mills, however, shipped 28,256 mt (preliminary census data) during that same time period.
