Mainstream ex-China steel plate offer prices from mills have been heard at $730-740/mt FOB for September shipment as of today, Monday, July 11, edging down by $10/mt compared to July 4. Reference deal prices have been heard at $720-725/mt FOB to South America and Southeast Asia versus $730/mt FOB a week ago, though some smaller mills and traders can negotiate at lower levels - down to $700/mt FOB.

During the given week, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have continued the downtrend amid the slack demand from downstream users. Meanwhile, the bearish sentiments prevailed among market players following continuous loss. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely edge down further in the coming week.

Average Q235 20 mm steel plate spot prices in China have moved down by RMB 94/mt ($14/mt) compared to July 4, standing at RMB 4,423/mt ($661/mt) ex-warehouse, according to SteelOrbis’ information.

As of July 11, HRC futures at the Shanghai Futures Exchange are standing at RMB 4,049/mt ($605/mt), decreasing by RMB137/mt ($20.5/mt) or 3.3 percent since July 4.
