As of December 10, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have mostly softened on week-on-week basis, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
Following the rapid rises seen in domestic steel plate prices in the first part of the given week due to support from the positive outcome of US-China talks, steel plate prices have decreased again in the latter part of the week due to the slackening of demand from downstream users due to colder weather conditions. Meanwhile, market participants have mostly adopted a wait-and-see stance. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
