Brazilian HRC export prices on strong uptrend

Exports of hot rolled coils HRC) by Brazilian producers reached 41,900 mt in July, 52 percent less than in June, according to the local ministry of development, industry and foreign trade - MDIC.

The average FOB export price went down by 2 percent to $548/mt, reflecting diversified prices among the exporters, with ArcelorMittal Tubarao at $477/mt and Usiminas at $617/mt.

ArcelorMittal Tubarao shipped 20,800 mt, while Usiminas Cosipa shipped 18,700 mt.

Gerdau Acominas for the first time registered an export from its recently inaugurated HR line at the Ouro Branco plant, in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais, with 2,400 mt shipped to Taiwan.

According to a major producer, the exports of July had prices closed two months ago, while the most recent export deals for HRC were closed in the $640/mt to $650/mt range.

The main destinations of the Brazilian HR coils in July were Asia (14,700 mt), Latin America (13,700 mt) and the US (13,500 mt).
