Turkish re-rollers have made another attempt to reflect costlier hot rolled coil (HRC) prices in their coated steel offers, increased them by $20/mt over the past week. “We also expect more increases in HRC and coated steel prices, because scrap prices have increased significantly this week," a re-roller told SteelOrbis. However, most suppliers have decided to step back and to wait for some market developments after the holiday. "We are not offering at the moment because it is meaningless as no one is buying. We want to see the market first and then decide on our prices," another producer said. A lot will depend on the situation in the import HRC market where competition is expected to be weak again as the CIS-based mills have limited allocation for September production.
Demand is still low in export destinations, but prices have increased because of higher raw material costs.
