Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific) 

A positive week for Capesizes was registered with rates improving in all the basins. 
The standard route from West Australia to Qingdao gained 1 dollar in one week with $6/mt done on Friday basis first half March laycan. The timecharter rates averaged around $10,000/d for pacific round voyage. The Saldanha Bay/China route was fixed in the region of low $8's. Some activity was reported for cargoes out of Brazil with the Tubarao/Qingdao route traded in the low $11's for early March dates, whilst a firmer $12.5/mt was agreed for April dates. In the Atlantic $6.5/6.4/mt was agreed for the standard Puerto Bolivar/Rotterdam basis first half March dates, and a timecharter bss region of $9/10,000/d was fixed for TransAtlantic round voyage. The spot market firming up influenced also the period one, with more activity registered and $13,000/d agreed on nice cape for 1 year timecharter bss dely China, whilst smaller/older vessels were fixed for same period in the region of low $11,000/d.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

During last week levels seen from ECSA have increased with Kamsarmax vessels fixing around $10,000/d + $500,000 bb for fronthaul trips while, for similar direction, an 80,000 dwt was reported fixed at $10,750/d basis Fujairah delivery for trip via ECSA. For trips with redelivery Continent a 73,000 dwt was reported fixed at $9,500/d basis Recalada delivery, and similar levels were also seen reported on a 93,000 dwt fixing basis ECSA delivery with redely Skaw-Tarragona. A 77,000 dwt was reported fixed basis Gibraltar delivery for trip via NCSA to Singapore-Japan at $13,250/d while, for similar loading area, an 81,000 dwt fixed $11,500/d basis Rotterdam delivery for trip via Santarem to China. In Continent an 81,000 dwt fixed basis Immingham trip via ARA range to Red Sea with redely Passero at $8,800/d, while a 76,000 dwt was fixed basis Ijmuiden via Baltic to Passero at $9,000/d. In F East NoPac rounds being reported fixed at $8,000/d on a 76,000 dwt basis Tokyo Bay delivery, while an 81,000 dwt was fixed basis CJK delivery for trip via E Australia to India at $7,500/d. 
A 76,000 dwt was reported fixed for trip via Indonesia to Taiwan basis Mauban delivery at $9,250/d and a 75,000 dwt was fixed basis Qinzhou for 2LL at $8,000/d redely F East. On the period front an 80,000 dwt was reported fixed at $9,500/d for 5-7 months basis CJK delivery, while for 1 year similar size new building vessel was reported at $10,500/d basis F East delivery.

Handy (Far East/Pacific) 

A long list of Supramaxes and Ultramaxes reported fixed showed how fast the rates increased on the main routes. The positive impact was stronger on the spot deals loading from Indonesia, but also TransPacific RV rates showed a good increase and the short period has been stimulated as well from this positive tendency. A small Ultramax delivering Singapore was done at $10,000/d via Indonesia to Philippines and, afterwards, a 53,000 size got $9,500/d for a similar trip with redelivery Thailand. Indonesian coal trade to China paid a 57,000 dwt and a 53,000 size $9,500/d basis delivery Singapore and an Ultramax got $9,250/d with delivery Thailand. Same commodity was shipped from Indonesia to India on another Ultramax at $9,000/d with delivery HK, while a 58,000 size delivering Indonesia was done at $9,500/d with redely WC India. A 63,500 dwt fixed $10,000/d from Singapore via Australia to China and a new building similar type was paid $8,750/d ex yard Japan via Australia back to Japan. NoPac RV was reported done at $8,000/8,250/d levels with a 60,000 unit delivered at N China/S Korea and redelivered Spore/Japan range. A fancy 58,000 size delivered at S Korea fixed $8,000/d for 6/8 months trading, while an Ultramax delivering at N China got $9,000/d for 3/5 months. Non-eco type 57,000 dwt were seen getting around $7,500/8,000/d on 4/6 and 3/5 months durations. A nice 29,000 size was booked at $6,750/d to carry agricultural products from SE Asia to China.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean) 

The amount of reported fixtures from these waters was still limited, but rates were described as growing a bit on all sizes for fronthaul business and backhaul to Americas. An Ultramax delivering at Marmara Sea got $5,750/d for the first 35 days and $9,500/d balance for a long duration trip from B Sea to the USG, on the same trade a 37,000 size fixed $4,500/d and for a 33,000 dwt got $5,000/d. A 55,000 size delivering at NR Sea got $9,000/d via B Sea for a trip with grains to the MEG. An Ultramax delivering Belgium performed a trip via Scandinavia to SE Asia for a daily rate of $14,250. A 57,000 non-eco type got $10,500/d from N Spain to W Africa.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America) 

Some increased rates were seen agreed on Supramaxes from the USG. A 55,000 dwt carrying petcoke from USG to Morocco was booked at $15,500/d, and a 58,000 with similar delivery was fixed at $17,000/d for a trip to Egypt. Fronthaul from this loading range showed an Ultramax done at $21,500/d carrying petcoke to India and a 55,000 size carrying the same commodity fixed $18,500/d to S Korea with delivery “when where ready” up River Plate. A 28,000 dwt basis delivery Recalada was fixed at $8,500/d for a trip to W Mediterranean.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

Charterers have been again in stand-by in MEG, with a lack of demand from MEG/India and a bit more interest to load coals from S Africa. A standard 57,000 size got $7,150/d with limestone cargo from Qatar to WC India, while a similar type fixed $7,250/d with steel on EC India/Thailand route. A 57,800 dwt delivering S Africa performed a trip to India at $14,500/d and a 66,000 Ultramax delivering Richards Bay got $16,750/d for trip to the MEG.
