EU long product imports increase by 26%

According to the latest industry reports, EU long product imports grew by 26% in the first eight months of 2003 to 570'000 tons per month compared to the same period last year. Wire rod imports increased by 46% in the same period while imports of merchant bar and rebar rose by 26% and 21% respectively. As previously reported by SteelOrbis; Poland, Turkey and Czech Republic were the major suppliers of light long products to the EU in the first seven months of 2003. In addition, Turkey's exports of rebar, merchant bar and rod rose by 39%, 33% and 116% respectively into EU in January-August period.
