2004 crude steel production in Japan expected to keep 2003 level

According to an announcement made by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), a negligible decrease is observed in demand for construction however, this decrease will be offset by the improving demand for automobile, shipbuilding and industrial machine sectors. Consequently, the downward trend seen in domestic demand will be disrupted. In conclusion of forecasts, annual crude steel production in Japan for the year 2004 is expected to maintain its level as this year with 109 million tons. This year's figure is recorded as 110 million tons.
