On October 13, 2008, Henan Province-based Wuyang Iron & Seel Co., Ltd succeeded in trial-producing high strength shipbuilding steel plate E500 - a new steel variety developed to meet market demand.
Shipbuilding steel plate E500 is a high strength and high toughness special steel plate, mainly used to manufacture ship vessels, oceangoing machinery and equipment which demand excellent weldability. With a maximum thickness of 60 mm, shipbuilding steel plate E500 has a yield strength higher than 500MPa and a tensile strength between 610MPa and 770MPa. The plate in question also has to be able to bear a horizontal impact greater than 33 J at minus 40 degree centigrade. The plates are cooled rapidly below 600 degrees centigrade after rolling.
