WTO approves sanctions by Chile against US

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has recently approved sanctions by Chile on US goods as US Congress failed to revoke the anti-dumping duty law, called “the Byrd Amendment”. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, eight countries, namely the EU, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Japan, Mexico, South Korea and India, filed a complaint against US duties. The seven countries except for Chile were authorized to impose sanctions against US goods last month. Especially the steel producers in these countries have suffered from the Byrd Amendment. The duties were imposed to help US producers to compete with foreign producers. On Friday, WTO also authorized Chile to impose punitive duties on US goods. The value of the sanctions is stated to exceed more than $150 million per annum.
