According to the preliminary data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in July this year came to 4.69 million metric tons, slightly falling by 0.74 percent compared to the previous month and up 6.21 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-July period of 2010, global DRI output amounted to 28.81 million metric tons, rising by 10.25 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
The worldsteel data show that India is the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in July, with a DRI output of 1.8 million metric tons, up 8.83 percent month on month and up 2.86 percent year on year, followed by Iran and Saudi Arabia, with outputs of 698,000 mt and 460,000 mt respectively.
