Wire rod consumption in Mexico up 17.8 percent in September

For the second consecutive month, apparent consumption of wire rod in Mexico remained in a positive trend with an increase of 17.8 percent, year-over-year, in September with 225,000 metric tons (mt), according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero) reviewed by SteelOrbis.

Wire rod production in September, meanwhile, broke the negative trend of the first eight months of the year, increasing 3.5 percent to total 206,000 mt.

In the accumulated nine months, consumption decreased 1.7 percent or 34,000 mt less, compared to the same period last year, totaling 1.98 million mt. Production during the period decreased 14.4 percent or 318.00 mt to 1.89 million mt.
