Warsaw to exclude Mittal from buying coke producer

Warsaw will exclude Mittal Steel, the world's largest steel maker, from the planned sale of Polish coke producer Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa (JSW) next year due to competition concerns, Polish sources report. Treasury Minister Pawel Szalamacha confirmed that Mittal Steel, which owns Poland's largest steel group PHS, had expressed interest in the planned privatization of JSW. However, Polish government is reportedly planning to introduce certain conditions to prevent Mittal Steel from acquiring a large stake in JSW, in an effort to prevent Mittal from controlling both the coke and steel production markets.
