Austrian steelmaker voestalpine AG has announced that it has put into operation its new high-tech wire rod mill at its Leoben/Donawitz site in Austria. The fully automated plant, constructed with an investment of €140 million, will annually produce 550,000 mt of premium rod wire for the most sophisticated applications in the automotive, energy, construction and mechanical engineering industries.

According to voestalpine’s statement, the new line replaces the existing rolling line which has been operational since 1979. The high-tech mill produces steel-based wires with diameters of between 4.5 mm and 60 mm whose purity, strength, and ductility meets the highest technological standards.
