Vizag Steel to expand converter shop at Visakhapatnam

Germany-based SMS Siemag has announced that it will modernize and expand the converter shop No. 1 of the Indian steelmaker Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (Vizag Steel).
 
The modernization and expansion works aim to increase annual production from 3.2 million mt to 3.6 million mt of steel as well as to improve environmental protection by installing an SMS Siemag gas cleaning system. The modernized converter shop is scheduled to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2014.
 
SMS Siemag is also building a second converter shop for the Indian steelmaker at the same location, Visakhapatnam, to produce 2.8 million mt of liquid steel per year.
